# CIRCULAR LETTER December 2009

## The Word became flesh

It is well-known that the Gospel of John begins with the following words: “*In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”* The term “the Word” was translated from the Greek word *Logos*. However, the Hebrew word is *Dabar* and has three main meanings: to speak, to command, to report. So, in the beginning was the One Who spoke and it was done; He commanded and it stood fast. Thereupon, the report of the creation could be written.

Consequently, the following Scriptures always refer to the one and only Creator that there is; He is the Word, the One Who speaks, and the One Who acts –  He is all in all.

 *“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”*(Gen. 1:1).

 *“By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.”* (Ps. 33:6).

 *“For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.”* (Ps. 33:9).

 *“Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.”* (Ps. 102:25).

 *“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”* (Jn. 1:3).

 *“And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands …”* (Heb. 1:10).

 *“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”* (Rev. 4:11).

The word *Dabar*, which was translated as *Logos*, is the Lord Himself Who became flesh and dwelt among us. Amen.
