CIRCULAR LETTER September 1972

The true church as the body of Christ

« »

In 1 Corinthians 12:12, the church is described as the spiritual body consisting of many members. The members of the body are diverse, yet they belong together, are dependent on one another, and are joined to the Head. The entire body of Christ is endued with the life of Christ and furnished with His power. In verse 13, it says that we were all baptized into one body and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. This is the testimony of the Holy Scripture. Every true believer is baptized into the church of the living God by the Holy Spirit and is thereby subject to the leading of the Holy Spirit. All members of the body of Jesus Christ will respect and acknowledge each other despite their differences, for together they form one body and are subject to Christ, the Head.
